Targeted killings aimed to provoke forces in Kashmir and foment street protests
Manoj Sinha said his administration won’t fall prey to these designs and would ensure that no innocent is harmed by the administration, police or the security forces.
“I know they are doing it (targeted killings) in desperation to provoke police and security forces. They want forces to be provoked so that they commit some mistake of leaving an innocent person dead and then common people would come out on the streets,” said Sinha during a function in Kulgam area of southern Kashmir, where two people, including a teacher, Rajini Bala, were killed in attacks last month.
The LG inaugurated Eklavya Model Residential School and laid the foundation stone for a new tribal youth hostel in the district.
“We will not fall prey to their designs. J&K administration, police or security forces won’t act against any innocent person. We are striving hard to ensure that the people of Kashmir get rid of terrorism,” said Sinha. “Society also has to condemn these targeted killings, otherwise they are failing in their responsibility.”
There have been 19 targeted killings in Kashmir so far this year, including that of off-duty policemen, panchayat representatives, an Instagrammer and minority community members, including a Kashmiri Pandit employee.
Sinha reiterated that the flame is bright as it is about to die and they are frustrated because of the fact that the armed forces have tightened the noose around them. “Terrorism is breathing its last in J&K,” he said. Sinha urged people to understand that the path of development and prosperity goes through peace, and in this ongoing situation, development cannot take place.
“I request you all, and time also demands that you all (society) should cooperate with J&K administration, police and security forces to end this terrorism,” he said.
According to Sinha, projects worth Rs 39.79 crore under various tribal schemes are being implemented in the district. “Cluster tribal model villages, livelihood units, infrastructure projects, access to healthcare through new mobile medical units, tribal sub-centres and various other path-breaking initiatives are giving a ray of hope to this disadvantaged section of society,” said Sinha.
Sinha said efforts at making tribal youth more skilled will be the biggest driver of future inclusive growth. “We are in the process of drafting several new schemes… We will ensure that no one is left behind,” he said.
The LG said that after implementation of the Forest Rights Act, people living in forests have got the right to live a free life.
“Money would always come from the government of India, but the fact was that the funds never reached the common people…Tribal community people were abandoned for decades, but since 2020, they got their rights. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a slew of schemes for tribal men, women and children,” he said.
Sinha informed that J&K has recorded 24% increase in GST collection, 30% growth in excise duty, and 56% growth in duty, besides J&K is selling petrol and diesel at cheapest prices.
