Just yesterday, it was reported that fashion designer Manish Malhotra is all set to make his directorial debut with Meena Kumari biopic that will star Kriti Sanon in the lead role. It was Manish’s long-cherished dream to recreate the magic of tragedy queen Meena Kumari on screen and through this film, the designer-turned-filmmaker aims to honour the legacy of the iconic actress and shed light on her incredible journey through the lens of cinema.
However Tajdar Amrohi, son of late filmmaker Kamal Amrohi, was surprised to hear about of the film.Reacting to the reports of Kriti Sanon playing Meena Kumari, he said to ETimes, “She is a good actress but she should avoid the role to keep her reputation intact.”
It may be recalled that there is an official biopic being made on Meena Kumari which has Tajdar Amrohi’s consent and involvement in it. When asked about the status of the film, he said, “There would be a big announcement.”
Meena Kumari had starred in over 90 films. She died at the age of 38 due to cirrhosis of liver which has been associated with alcoholism.
On the work front, Kriti was last seen in Om Raut’s ‘Adipurush’ co-starring Prabhas, Sunny Singh and Saif Ali Khan in lead roles. She will soon be seen in Dinesh Vijan’s untitled next with Shahid Kapoor and Dharmendra. She also has ‘Ganapath: Part 1’ starring Tiger Shroff.
