Taiwan India’s most trusted partner in semiconductor plans: Foxconn chairman Young Liu

Foxconn chairman Young Liu on Friday said India and Taiwan could be partners in the development of a robust semiconductor ecosystem in India.

Speaking at the Semicon 2023 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, Liu said that he was optimistic about the direction and the roadmap of India’s semiconductor plan.

“Taiwan is and will be your most trusted and reliable partner…Let’s do this together,” Liu said.

Earlier this month, Foxconn walked out of its partnership with Vedanta to “explore more diverse development opportunities”.

Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) and Anil Agarwal-led Vedanta had announced their joint venture to manufacture chips and display panels in India in February 2022, making it one of the first few participants in the government’s strategically crucial India Semiconductor Mission (ISM).

ET had reported in June that the joint venture was on shaky ground and that Foxconn had started sounding out other Indian conglomerates as potential partners to further its chip-making ambitions in the country.

The Taiwanese company has informed the ministry of electronics and information technology about the details of at least two memoranda of understanding (MoU) it has inked with technology partners.
