T20 World Cup: Dominant Bangladesh beat Oman by 26 runs to pick up first tournament win
Bangladesh dominated large parts of the contest to prevail over Oman and pick up their first win of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Oman and Bangladesh locked horns in the sixth match of the tournament at the Oman Cricket Academy ground.
Oman, which won its first match of the T20 World Cup against Papua New Guinea, restricted Bangladesh to 153 after 20 overs. Opener Mohammad Naim starred for the Bangla Lions with a classy half-century (64) while Shakib Al Hasan scored 42 runs before being run out. Rest of Bangladesh’s batting lineup underwhelmed with Mahmudullah’s 17 being the third highest score.
Bilal Khan and Fayyaz Butt starred in bowling for Oman with the latter also taking a screamer of a catch from his own bowling.
In reply, Oman got off to a shaky start but opener Jatinder Singh steered the ship with 40 on 33 balls, aided by Kashyap Harishbhai who was Oman’s second highest scorer with 21. Oman then lost 4 wickets for 15 runs as Shakib starred with the ball too for Bangladesh with 3 wickets while Mustafizur Rahman emerged as the top pic with a 4-wicket haul.
Bangladesh will be expecting to gain momentum after being stunned by Scotland in their first match of the T20 World Cup 2021.
