In Badminton, two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu will look to end her title drought at the Syed Modi International Tournament that begins at the Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium in Lucknow today. Sindhu will take on Tanya Hemanth in the round 32 match today. The ace shuttler will look to bounce back after her unexpected semi-final loss at the India Open.
Second-seeded Canadian Michelle Li, a Commonwealth Games silver medallist, will be one of the strong contenders for the title in women’s singles, which also has Polish eighth seed Jordan Hart, second seed Iris Wang of USA and Russia’s fifth seed Evgeniya Kosetskaya.
However, newly-crowned India Open champions Lakshya Sen, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty, K. Srikanth, Saina Nehwal and Ashwini Ponnappa have pulled out of the dollar one lakh fifty thousand Syed Modi International badminton tournament due to various reasons including COVID-19. Third seed B Sai Praneeth, who had pulled out of India Open after testing positive, is also awaiting an RT-PCR test result.
Other players in the race for the title are HS Prannoy, London Ukraine’s Danylo Bosniuk and Czech Republic’s Tereza Švabikova among others
