Sydney Sweeney’s Reaction to Her Double Emmy Nomination Was Incredibly Wholesome
Sydney Sweeney has been going from strength to strength in recent years. Since the 24-year-old’s early roles in The Handmaid’s Tale and Sharp Objects, she’s appeared in Quentin Tarantino’s star-studded Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, enthralled viewers in The White Lotus, won a part opposite Dakota Johnson in Marvel’s Madame Web, and dazzled critics with her embodiment of the fragile, beguiling Cassie across two seasons of Euphoria. The ultimate sign that she’s secured her position as one of the most sought-after actors of her generation? The fact that, on July 12, she was recognized by the Television Academy for the first time ever, with not one, but two Emmy nominations.
Alongside the likes of Ozark’s Julia Garner, Squid Game’s Hoyeon Jung, and Succession’s Sarah Snook, Sweeney received a nod in the supporting actress in a drama series category for Euphoria. Meanwhile, in the supporting actress in a limited series or movie category, her turn as the terrifying, borderline sociopathic Olivia in The White Lotus landed her a spot on a shortlist that also included four of her co-stars: Jennifer Coolidge, Connie Britton, Alexandra Daddario, and Natasha Rothwell.
The first thing she did upon hearing the news, according to an Instagram video posted shortly after the announcement? Call her mom in tears while curled up on the passenger seat of a car, of course. “What a morning,” she wrote in the accompanying caption. “Thank you so much to the Television Academy for my Emmy nominations! It’s an honor to know that both Olivia and Cassie have connected with so many. I’m so proud of both these shows and grateful to everybody that’s been a part of them. But most importantly mom, I love you, we did it through the ups and downs!”
