Sushmita Sen Dating Lalit Modi: Son Ruchir Modi reacts, “His life, his decision” – Exclusive – Times of India

The media and social media may have gone into a tizzy ever since Lalit Modi made a disclosure on Thursday about dating Sushmita Sen, but his family seems quite nonchalant about the revelation. “I prefer to refrain from commenting on personal family affairs but would always be happy to comment in relation to business or other matters,” Ruchir Modi, Lalit’s son, told ETimes.

Ruchir (28) is one of Lalit’s two children, Aliya (29) being the other, and according to him the family was aware of the former IPL chairman’s relationship with the former Miss Universe. But they would not discuss the personal issues of other family members, as a matter of policy. “I prefer not to comment at all, to be very honest, as we don’t comment on personal matters as a family policy,” Ruchir, who stays with his father in London, said. Aliya is married, Ruchir is single.

Lalit’s post sparked off an all-round frenzy. It read, “Just back in london after a whirling global tour #maldives # sardinia with the families — not to mention my #betterhalf @sushmitasen47 — a new beginning a new life finally. Over the moon (sic).” He then clarified that the two are not married and are just dating, although the marriage is inevitable.

“Just for clarity. Not married — just dating each other. That too will happen one day,” Lalit wrote a little later. He did not respond to calls and messages and when insisted that he comment on the disclosure, Ruchir, firebrand like his father but much less impulsive and much more calculative, reluctantly gave an opinion. “It is his life and his decision,” he said.

Ruchir lost his mother Minal to cancer in December 2018 and Lalit then had posted a moving tribute to his wife, who was 11 years older to him. The Modis were a close-knit family and Ruchir still has a picture with his mother in his WhatsApp DP. “I miss her every day,” he said.

A management graduate from London, Ruchir studied in the American School in Mumbai, before moving to the UK with his parents in 2010. The father and son duo, along with Lalit’s brother (Samir Modi), are involved in a family dispute over property with his grandmother and the case has gone to the Supreme Court after a failed arbitration attempt.

“The family dispute is unfortunate and I hope and have full faith in the Supreme Court of India for a quick decision in this matter, given the unfortunate state of the way the businesses are being run and controlled,” Ruchir, who invests in various ventures in the UK and Europe, said. He used to frequent Mumbai but that has stopped since the pandemic.
