  • St Helens maintained their 100% winning start by beating Wakefield Trinity

Sam Wood’s two tries either side of half-time broke Castleford’s resistance and helped Hull Kingston Rovers to their first win of the Super League season on Friday night.

Rovers recorded a 26-10 home triumph over the winless Tigers who were made to pay for an indisciplined display.

Rovers edged the first half thanks to tries from Wood and Shaun Kenny-Dowall.

But Castleford would have been happy only to trail 8-6 at the interval after having Bureta Faraimo’s high tackle and Liam Watts’ late hit both punished with yellow cards. The Tigers did not concede when down to 11 players and even scored a try through Jordan Turner.

But Castleford were made paid to pay for that physical effort after the break with Wood, Matt Parcell, Brad Takairangi and rising star Mikey Lewis touching down. Faraimo scored a late consolation for the Tigers.

In the night’s other game, Mark Percival scored two first-half tries as St Helens extended their unbeaten record at home to Wakefield James Roby and Josh Simm also crossed the whitewash in a 20-4 victory.
