In the run up to Super Bowl LVII, interactions with the media can take the pressure off the players who need to perform come Sunday.
Take Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes for example – who is playing in his third Super Bowl, owning a 1-1 record going into this game.
Unfortunately for him, former All-Pro and six-time Pro-Bowl wide receiver Brandon Marshall decided to prank Mahomes using the Super Bowl’s halftime show performer as bait.
‘Rihanna came out and said you were the greatest quarterback ever. Hearing that, how does that make you feel?,’ Marshall asked.
Mahomes seemed stunned by the question, but smiled and responded by saying: ‘That makes me feel great. She’s going to crush it at halftime.

Marshall lied to Mahomes, saying singer Rihanna called him the ‘greatest quarterback ever’
‘I have family members that I think are more excited about the halftime show than they are about the game.
‘Whatever Rihanna says is like the gospel so I’m glad that she went with me for that honor.’
That’s when Marshall brought the truth crashing down on Mahomes, saying: ‘She didn’t. I was just messing with you.’
Mahomes looked defeated, saying back, ‘Man, you got me up here smilin’ as the media all laughed at Marshall’s prank.
The Chiefs and Mahomes will face off against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII this Sunday.
The 27-year-old quarterback sustained a high ankle sprain in the Chiefs’ 27-20 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the divisional round of the playoffs and was limited in his ability to run against the Bengals in the AFC title win (23-20).
He’s been trying to shake off the injury in time for America’s most-watched, annual broadcast on February 12.
‘I don’t know if I’ll necessarily test it, but I’m going to try to have no restrictions,’ Mahomes said of his ankle on Tuesday.
