NEW DELHI: External affairs minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday met Google CEO Sundar Pichai and discussed India’s digital transformation.
In a tweet, Jaishankar said: “Discussed India’s digital transformation and global strategic developments.”

The Google CEO is on a visit to India after a gap of around three-and-a-half years. On Monday, he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu and telecom and IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Pichai also spoke at the Google for India 2022 event and said that the pace of technological change in the country has been extraordinary and Google is supporting small businesses and startups, investing in cybersecurity, providing education and skills training, and applying AI in sectors like agriculture and healthcare..

The India-born Google chief hailed PM Modi for the government’s Digital India vision and expressed enthusiasm over India’s upcoming G20 presidency.
“Prime Minister Modi’s Digital India vision has helped to accelerate the progress we’re seeing across India, and I’m excited for India to share its experience with the world as it takes over the G20 presidency in 2023,” he said.
While speaking at Google for India 2022 event yesterday, Pichai said a part of India Digitisation Fund (IDF) is increasingly focussing on startups from India and one-fourth amount of $300 million from the fund will be invested in entities that are led by women.
PM Modi also expressed his delight for his meeting with Pichai and said that it is important for world to work togther to leverage tech for human prosperity.
“Was a delight to meet you Sundar Pichai and discuss innovation, technology and more. It is important the world continues to work together to leverage tech for human prosperity and sustainable development,” PM said.

The India-born CEO said that the technology is working at a big scale and touching lives of people around the world, which calls for framing responsible and balanced regulation.
“Given the scale and technology leadership it (India) will have, it’s important to make sure you are balancing, putting in safeguards for people. You’re creating an innovative framework, so that companies can innovate on top of a certainty in the legal framework. I think it is an important moment in time. India will also be a big export economy. It will benefit from an open and connected internet and getting that balance right will be important,” Pichai had said.
