JOHANNESBURG – Stormers flyhalf Manie Libbok has been named as the United Rugby Championship’s Fans’ Player of the Season after an outstanding year for the defending champions.

Libbok finished the regular campaign as the tournament’s leading points-scorer, with 167 points from 16 appearances. He added 18 points to his tally in the 33-21 quarterfinal victory against the Bulls and another 23, including two tries, in a stupendous semifinal performance where he lead his team to a 43-25 win against Connacht.

Despite the award, Libbok was not named in the URC’s Elite XV team of the season, which includes four South Africans. His Stormers teammates, Dan du Plessis and Steven Kitshoff, feature in that line-up, along with Bulls utility back Kurt-Lee Arendse and Sharks scrumhalf Grant Williams.

Bulls playmaker Johan Goosen has been named the winner of the URC’s Gilbert Golden Boot award as the season’s most accurate place-kicker. Goosen finished with a 90% success rate, having kicked 36 out of 40 for his team.

Meanwhile, 21-year-old Lions fullback, Quan Horn, has been named URC Ironman of the Season after playing the most minutes over 18 rounds of the competition. He was one of only 10 players in the competition to feature in all of their team’s league matches.
