A top pollie has vowed to grow a mullet – and the leader can now look forward to at least three months of ‘business in front, party in the back’.
The Northern Territory Chief Minister has vowed to grow a mullet for charity.
Michael Gunner looked stunned when he was told in a video posted to his Facebook page that it would take up to three months to grow his hair so long it touched his collar.
“Are you serious? It’ll take me three months to get a mullet?” Mr Gunner asked in the video.
The stunt is for the benefit of the Black Dog Institute and its challenge “mullets for mental health”.
The Chief Minister said he would keep his mullet for one month per every $5000 raised.
It was unclear if that would include the time it took to acquire the hairstyle. So far, Mr Gunner’s online fundraiser has collected just more than $5000.
In the Facebook video, Mr Gunner sits in a barber’s chair and asks a series of question to the hairdresser, named Tash.
“Can you make it so that it’s business at the front and party at the back?” he said.
“So that I’ll look professional still, for press conferences.”
Another Facebook post by the Territory chief drew a reply from Labor colleague Mark McGowan.
The West Australian Premier responded to a post where Mr Gunner’s media team asked his followers which style of mullet he should aspire to.
The post included three mock-ups of Mr Gunner with the hairstyles of legendary mullet-bearers Pat Cash, Patrick Swayze and Warwick Capper.
Mr McGowan’s media team responded it was a “pathetic effort”.
“Chief, that’s a pathetic effort,” the post from Mr McGowan’s account said.
The comment included an edited picture of Mr McGowan standing in front of WA politician Jessica Shaw, whose flowing locks sticking out from behind the Premier made him appear to sport an impressive mullet.
“With apologies to the great Dundee. That’s not a mullet, THIS is a mullet. Good luck for good locks,” the comment continued.
