Steve McManaman stunned as Liverpool concede five at home to Real Madrid
‘Absolutely RIPPED APART… this will be a HORROR SHOW for the Liverpool players to look back at the mistakes’: Steve McManaman stunned as Reds concede five at home to Real Madrid in Champions League last-16 first leg
Steve McManaman claimed Liverpool’s players will view their first leg against Real Madrid as a ‘horror show’ after the Reds collapsed from 2-0 up to concede five goals at Anfield.
The Liverpool legend was left stunned when Karim Benzema scored Real Madrid’s fifth goal of the last-16 tie, with the reigning European champions hitting the hosts on the break.
‘I think that sums it up, absolutely ripped apart,’ McManaman said.
‘They are caught again in the centre of the park, pounced upon, and when Benzema has got the ball in the position he found himself, he is the coolest man on the planet.
‘Have some of that, three people go one way and he just places it in. That is another one to the collection.’
Karim Benzema added Real Madrid’s fifth goal of the Champions League first leg at Anfield
‘To concede five goals at Anfield. Five goals, at Anfield. From 2-0 up.
‘This will be a horror show for Liverpool for the players to look back and look at the mistakes in the last four goals.
‘A chastening experience this evening.’
