Steph Curry has had some dramatic wins in Oklahoma City. He revisited a big one during practice Monday night.
During their 73-9 season in 2015-16, one of the Warriors’ toughest opponents was the Oklahoma City Thunder. On Feb. 27, 2016, Golden State came back from 11 points down in the final five minutes to force OT. Then Curry scored 12 points in overtime, including a very deep three-pointer to win it at the buzzer.
Curry pulled up from 32 feet away and drilled a shot over a desperately closing Andre Roberson, leading to an epic call from Mike Breen, who broke out the rare double-BANG! for the occasion.
The game foreshadowed an equally epic Western Conference Finals, where the Warriors came back from a 3-1 deficit to win, including a Game 6 comeback in the same building in which Klay Thompson hit 11 triples and Russell Westbrook turned the ball over four times in the final two minutes.
This year, the two teams are in a lower-level battle. OKC is trying to climb into the playoffs. They’re in 13th place, but only half a game behind 9th. The Warriors are trying to stay clear of the play-in, sitting insecurely in 5th.
But now Curry is back, along with Thompson, Draymond Green and a bunch of bad memories for the OKC fans. The young Thunder face the aging Warriors Tuesday night in another big game between these two franchises. Let’s hope the Thunder are old enough to remember they can’t leave Curry open anywhere on the court.
