The annual Sundance Film Festival in Park City is unlike any other Hollywood screening event. What other film festival has Hollywood A-listers touching down in the middle of Utah’s snowy mountains? Compared to the glitzier Cannes Film Festival or Toronto International Film Festival, Sundance is a decidedly more casual affair. It’s all about showing up and showing off your chicest, coziest winter wear. Officially kicking off this weekend, stars certainly haven’t disappointed on that front—it’s been a cool display of sleek coats and knits.
At the premiere of Eileen last night, star Anne Hathaway chose Versace’s hooded puffer jacket from its fall 2022 collection—a sleek style that even featured a built-in corset—which she paired with a classic LBD and chunky leather boots. At the premiere of The Disappearance of Shere Hite, Dakota Johnson also made outerwear the focus of her ensemblez The actor sported a quilted nylon jacket from Gucci (her go-to label, of course), styled with a turtleneck, jeans, and shearling-effect boots.
A few days in, and statement knitwear has proven to be another key feature of the Sundance step and repeats. At a premiere party for Invisible Beauty, hosted by Gucci, Thuso Mbedu wore a purple cable knit sweater from the label that was adorned with silver studs and puffed shoulders. At the Fairyland premiere, director Sofia Coppola went with a chunky, black and white striped sweater with black trousers and hefty hiker boots. Now there’s some inspiration for how to flex a look while staying warm. And the good news is we still have a week’s worth of Sundance outfits to come.
