Stand Studio Copenhagen Fall 2023 Collection
“I think our collections are always developments of who we are and what we do,” said Stand Studio designer Nellie Kamras on a call. She and the team designed the collection after making a visit to New York and spending a lot of time in vintage shops in Brooklyn, which explains the focus on wardrobe staples like shearling coats and bombers, but this collection was not designed against a theme, rather it was concerned with textiles and a mood.
At Stand, textures and materials always come first. This season Kamras is particularly excited about a denim-look suede leather. “We always want to surprise, so what you see is not necessarily what you get,” she said. The fall lineup also delivered newness in silhouette. Gone was the wink-wink Y2K cuteness of last season, in its place was an offering that felt more grown-up. Sophisticated tailored monochrome coats could send a boss lady vibe (or that message could be scrambled if paired with Stand’s furry footwear.)
This collection was also closer to the body and projected a sultry sexiness, thanks in part to the casting of the Danish model Ash Fjeldhagen who has such a confident presence. The clothes retained the sense of fun and joy Stand is known for, largely in the form of muppet-like faux furs—a hairy neon green coat, and another in a red and fuchsia and geometric pattern—were standouts. Think of them as the clothing equivalent of highlighters.
