SS Rajamouli’s closed door meeting with Ted Sarandos happened for THIS reason – Times of India

Yesterday, all eyes were on filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his sit-down discussion with Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos. It was an event where SLB and Netflix unveiled the first look of the upcoming show Heeramandi, which features an eclectic cast including Sonakshi Sinha, Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sharmin Segal, Richa Chadha and Sanjeeda Shaikh. While everyone was discussing the new period drama by SLB, Ted Sarandos, the global head of Netflix, met with another Indian filmmaker.
Amidst the Oscar promotions of RRR, SS Rajamouli made time to have a closed door meeting with Ted Sarandos in Mumbai. The ‘Baahubali’ maker was spotted going to meet, right after the Heeramandi event with Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

It maybe recalled here that Netflix was to turn Baahubali into a series but that was put on hold for reasons unknown and undeclared by the makers. Nevertheless, after this hush-hush meeting between Rajamouli and Sarandos, there’s buzz in the film fraternity that the ambitious Baahubali series could be on a path of revival.
RRR is one of the front runners in the Oscar’s race, especially for the Best Original Song category. And Sarandos himself has admitted to being a fan of Rajamouli’s film. Back in 2022, the Netflix boss had shared praise for the film on his Facebook account saying, “If you have not yet checked out RRR on Netflix, you must. It is the craziest thrill ride of a movie you will see this year. (In Hindi with English subtitles) it is a blast”.

All eyes on RRR for now, but the Baahubali series is also a passion project for Rajamouli and this meeting could just be the beginning of its revival.
