‘Squid Game’ accidentally leaks real phone number and bank account on the show; makers issue clarification – Times of India
The nine-episode show grabbed netizens’ attention with its intriguing plot. However, it’s also received flak from the viewers for illegally exposing personal details including a real phone number and a bank account number.
Responding to the phone number issue after the owner’s complaints, the production team is currently trying to mend the situation. While no final settlement has been made, the makers said in their official statement, “We are trying to solve this through continued phone calls and face-to-face meetings between the owner of the number and the production company.”
Further reacting to Netizens claiming that the displayed bank account details were also similarly used in the show without permission, much like the phone number case, the team has confirmed that they have ‘negotiated’ with the owner of the bank account, prior to the show premier. “The bank account number was used after negotiating with the owner of the account during the content production process” they asserted.
It all began with the first episode of ‘Squid Game’ when a scene featured the main lead played by actor Gong Yoo handing out his business card to Lee Jungjae (as Seong Gi Hun). The business card shared a glimpse of a phone number that turned out to be an existing calling number where fans have been calling day and night ever since.
On the other hand, in the finale episode, Seong Gi Hun is seen withdrawing 10,000 KRW (about $8.47 USD) from an ATM after winning the games. In the process, the scene displayed a bank account number alongside the prize money, which also belongs to a South Korean citizen.
