Teenage sensation Gavi missed training on Monday, a day after Spain’s 1-1 draw with Germany at the World Cup.

Gavi was nursing a minor injury sustained in the 1-1 draw at the Al Bayt Stadium on Sunday night and so sat out the session less than 24 hours later.

The 18-year-old midfielder was substituted in the 66th minute against Germany, shortly after Spain took a 1-0 lead through Alvaro Morata.

In a boost to boss Luis Enrique, the injury is not expected to keep Gavi out of the final group match against Japan on Thursday. Spain need a draw go through to the last-16.

Gavi scored once in Spain’s opening 7-0 rout of Costa Rica, becoming the youngest World Cup scorer since Pelé in 1958.

He and 20-year-old Pedri are leading a revamped Spain squad trying to win its second World Cup, and first major title since the 2012 European Championships.

Prior to the Germany clash, manager Enrique lauded Gavi, claiming the youngster can ‘define an era’. 

‘The most surprising thing for everyone is that someone, at 18 years and 100 days old, has that amount of self-confidence,’ Enrique said. 

‘You have to look at the intelligence he has in his positioning, how he dominates the technical aspects of football, and his physical capacity despite being 18. We have to stay calm, he’s 18, but he can define an era.’
