Southampton were relegated from the Premier League after they were beaten 2-0 by Fulham at St Mary’s on Saturday.
After a goalless first half, Carlos Vinicius finally broke the deadlock after Harrison Reid’s excellent pass found the Brazilian who hammered the ball into the back of the net from close range.
It was heartache for the Saints fans inside the stadium as the home side had a goal disallowed just a moment before, with Carlos Alcaraz sliding the ball into the back of the net after going one-on-one with Bernd Leno in goal, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
Aleksander Mitrovic, who had just come on following an eight-game absence, came on in the 65th minute and returned to score on his comeback seven minutes later with a very strong header.
