Sooraj Pancholi on being acquitted in Jiah Khan suicide case: After 10 painful years, I have won my confidence back – Times of India

After a decade long legal battle, a special CBI court on Friday acquitted actor Sooraj Pancholi from the charge of abetment of suicide in late actor Jiah Khan’s case. On June 3, 2013, the actress was found dead at her Juhu home and on June 10, Sooraj was arrested by the Juhu police on charges of abetment of suicide in his former girlfriend’s death case. He was let out later on bail but the court case continued for 10 years.
Breathing a sigh of relief after being acquitted, Sooraj distributed sweets to the paparazzi. Issuing a statement in reaction to the verdict, Sooraj said, “The Verdict has taken 10 long painful years and sleepless nights, But today I have not only won this case against me but I have also won my dignity and confidence back, it took a lot of courage to face the world with such heinous allegations, I hope and pray to God that nobody goes through what I have gone through at such a young age, I don’t know who will give me these 10 years of my life back to me, but I am glad that this has finally come to an end not only for me but specially for my family. There is nothing bigger than peace in this world.” Special CBI Judge AS Sayyed, who pronounced the verdict, stated that ‘due to paucity of evidence’, Sooraj was held not guilty.

Jiah Khan’s mother maintained that it was a case of murder and not suicide and that she would challenge the verdict in higher courts now. Rabia Khan told reporters, “The charge of abetment to suicide has gone. But how did my child die? This is a case of murder…will approach the high court.”
