Sony Alpha 7R V: Specifications, features and more
The Alpha 7R V is a professional-grade mirrorless camera from Sony. It comes equipped with a 35mm full-frame back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS image sensor with around 61.0 effective megapixels, and the latest BIONZ XR image processing engine that fully utilises the sensor’s resolution potential to deliver the highest resolution at low sensitivity in the Alpha series.
One of the Alpha 7R V’s notable features is its Real-time Recognition AF, which uses a new AI processing unit with deep learning to achieve advanced accuracy and broader subject recognition. This technology includes several subject types, such as animals, vehicles, and insects. The camera also supports continuous shooting at up to 10 fps with AF/AE tracking.
The Alpha 7R V also offers upgraded Pixel Shift Multi Shooting, which uses the precision in-body image stabilization system control to capture multiple pixel-shifted images that are later composited using a computer to achieve overwhelming resolution in a single image. The camera can produce 16-image composites with approximately 240.8 million pixels.
Other features of the Alpha 7R V include improved Real-time Tracking, a faster and more precise wide-area, high-density AF system, silent, vibration-free shooting, and focus bracketing. The camera also supports external flash control for additional creative flexibility and effectively suppresses flickering from artificial lights for stills and video.
The Alpha 7R V has a compact, lightweight form factor and includes a new 4-axis multi-angle LCD monitor that combines the utility of a conventional tilting monitor with side-opening vari-angle flexibility, and an electronic viewfinder with 9.44 million dots. Additionally, the camera supports lossless RAW format with three selectable pixel counts: L (60M), M (26M), and S (15M).
