Kennedy Urlacher has a last name you might recognize, especially if you’re from the Chicago area or know remotely anything about the Chicago Bears or frankly, professional football in general.
Kennedy’s father, Brian Urlacher played college ball at New Mexico before being picked by the Bears with the ninth overall pick of the 2000 NFL Draft. He went on to have a Hall of Fame career — 13 seasons (all in Chicago) as arguably one of the greatest middle linebackers to ever do it.
It remains to be seen if Kennedy Urlacher will follow his father’s footsteps and have a Hall of Fame NFL career, or any NFL career because even that is hard enough. That said, the 6-foot, 190-pound safety recruit from Chandler, Arizona, has taken the first step.
He’s committed to a college program that NFL teams have no problem scouting: Notre Dame.
Urlacher had told On3 that South Bend felt like home.
“They play at the highest level,” Urlacher said. “Also, you’re not going to get a better education than at Notre Dame while playing big-time football.”
It’s hard to argue that logic.
Urlacher, a three-star, is ranked as the No. 57 safety recruit in his class, according to the 247Sports composite. His offer lists includes Arizona, Arizona State, Iowa, Miami, Nebraska, Penn State, Stanford, TCU and Wisconsin, among others.
Urlacher’s commitment comes on the same day that Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman secured the services of a four-star wide receiver.
