Socceroos fans are MASSIVELY outnumbered at 2022 FIFA World Cup clash with Argentina in Qatar

Where’s Wally at the World Cup: Can you spot the Socceroos fan as Aussies are MASSIVELY outnumbered at do-or-die clash with Argentina in Qatar?

The Socceroos have always been underdogs at the World Cup, and now their fans are too – with one Aussie journalist suggesting ’90 per cent of the crowd are wearing Argentina jerseys’ at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium.

Given Australian gold jerseys stand out in a crowd in any sport, it is easy to see the stadium, which is in Ar-Rayyan, just west of Doha, is dominated by the iconic sky blue and white of the Albicelestes.

Viewing sites in Doha were also dominated by Argentinean fans, with one Socceroos fan outside the site at Al Rayyan Stadium saying she ‘saw more Brazil shirts than Aussie ones’.

‘If we thought we were outnumbered against Tunisia, my god. It feels like the whole rest of the world is here, and they’re all Argentinian for the next few hours,’ the fan tweeted.

One Aussie fan, also in Doha, suggested everywhere in the Qatari capital was bathed in Argentina’s famous colours.

‘It’s like Where’s Wally here in the mall of Qatar next to the stadium. Spot the yellow in a sea of blue and white,’ he wrote.

Prominent football journalist Vince Rugari, who is at the match, was in awe of the atmosphere at the 45,000-capacity stadium.

‘I can’t put the atmosphere into words. Not only are the majority here supporting Argentina (obviously) but as observes, 90 per cent of them are wearing Argentina jerseys – and 90% per cent of them have Messi 10 on the back. This is what it’s all about,’ he wrote.

Argentinean superstar Lionel Messi is playing in his final World Cup, and his adoring fans across the entire globe are no doubt hoping the striker can go out with a bang.

He scored the opening goal in the match right in front of the only Socceroos fans at the stadium – and no doubt the adoring crowd will only continue to get louder as Argentina dominates.

The small smattering of Aussie supporters in their gold jerseys did stand out, but it was clear they were strongly outnumbered in voice.

Argentina secured the win 2-1 and advanced to the quarter-finals; so no doubt the party will continue in Doha for the many fans in sky blue.
