snoring detection: Fitbit brings snoring-detection feature to Versa 3 and Sense watches – Times of India
Move over SpO2 monitoring, a feature that has become common with the smartwatch these days, thanks to a heightened public interest due to the coronavirus pandemic. Now, the smartwatch brand Fitbit has introduced a new health feature to its Versa 3 and Sense smartwatches for detecting snoring sounds.
The feature has been named “Snore & Noise Detect” and will “sample, measure, and collect information about the noise in your environment” while you are sleeping. You can delete the saved sound data later on if you want. But there is a caveat. Actually, two of them. First, you have to ensure that the batter levels of the smartwatch are more than 40%. If not, the feature will reportedly not work properly. Secondly, Fitbit is charging you to use the feature with a Premium subscription of $10 per month or $80 per year.
To check whether your watch has the feature, you need to open the Fitbit app, go to the ‘Sleep’ page and look for the ‘Check for snoring’ section. If you want to know how the feature works, there should be a ‘Learn more’ option. When ready, you can test out the feature. After you wake up in the morning, you can check your snore report in the Sleep section of the app.
When it comes to new health-related features on a smartwatch, Apple may be working on a new feature for the Apple Watch to check the hydration levels of an individual. The tech giant got a new patent for the same by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) about a month back.
The method described in the patent deals with taking samples of perspiration of the individual by measuring one or more electrical properties of sweat with the help of electrodes in the watch. The data gathered in the form of electrical properties could then be correlated with the concentration of electrolytes present in the sweat. Some electrodes present at the base of the Apple Watch dial, positioned on the inner side of the wrist strap, could do the trick of data collection by measuring the electrical properties.
