Singer KK’s tragic demise leaves Srijit Mukherji in a state of total shock – Times of India
“I just met him last month for the 1st time and felt that we’d known each other for years. The chatter wouldn’t just stop. And I was so moved to see the love he had for Gulzar saab. He said he stepped into this world with Chhor aaye hum and sang it as a tribute. Farewell KK, my newest friend. Will miss you. I wish we could have had more sessions on music and food and cinema,” that’s what a heartbroken Srijit could only say as he still can’t believe the news.
For the unversed, KK and Gulzar reunited for Srijit’s upcoming Hindi film ‘Sherdil’ as the gifted singer sang a song penned by Gulzar for the film.
KK’s film playback career started with the legendary Gulzar when he lent his voice to the memorable track ‘Chhod Aaye Hum Woh Galiyaan’ composed by Vishal Bhardwaj for the 1996 film ‘Maachis’, also directed by Gulzar. The hit singer-lyricist duo then went on to collaborate for a number of films including 2001’s ‘Aks’, 2002’s ‘Filhaal…’ and ‘Saathiya’, and ‘Jhoom Barabar Jhoom in 2007, among so many other songs.
KK performed at Nazrul Mancha on Tuesday and later went to his hotel where he suddenly collapsed. When rushed to a nearby hospital the versatile singer was declared dead.
