Simon Jordan insists it’s SILLY to call Marcus Rashford world class despite his rich vein of form

Simon Jordan has insisted that Marcus Rashford is not a world class player, despite the Manchester United forward’s scintillating vein of form.

Rashford was on target for United in their 2-2 draw with Barcelona in the Europa League on Thursday evening. 

Rashford’s strike from a tight angle at the Nou Camp was his 22nd goal in 35 games this season, his joint-best goal return in a single campaign so far in his career. 

But despite his impressive performances, Sportsmail’s newest columnist Jordan believes Rashford is just in an extraordinary run of form and that it would silly to label him as a world class player.  

‘Rashford is in a ridiculous vein of form.’ Jordan told talkSPORT.

‘What I’ve always pushed back against is the characterisation that he is a world class player and he’s in an elite position. 

‘He’s very good player, you don’t get to play for Manchester United – whatever guise of Manchester United is in front of you – unless you are a very good player. 

‘He’s in a rich vein of form, a remarkable state of mind, even the goal he scored the other day which was disallowed was so sharp – bang – and it’s in the back of the net. 

‘You can see in a player that their confidence is brimming, but confidence and moments in time are one thing. A body of work and a constant level of containment puts you above everybody else. 

‘That’s the usage of the word “world class” – we throw it around like confetti. There are very few world class players, you can name them on two hands. 

‘At this moment in time, while Marcus Rashford’s form is extraordinary good, I think it’s a bit silly to call him world class. At this moment he’s on top of his game, that’s a fair enough assessment.’ 

Since returning from the World Cup, Rashford has hit 14 goals in 16 games, more than any other player in Europe.

Rashford’s goals have played a huge par in Erik ten Hag’s side successful season so far 

His return has seen Man United close the cap on second-place Arsenal to five points and fire them in to the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle next weekend. 

The goal at the Nou Camp on Thursday came in a pulsating European encounter, where United earned a 2-2 draw to tack back to Old Trafford. 

Marcos Alonso gave the Catalans the lead five minutes after the break, only for Erik ten Hag’s side to turn it around with goals from Rashford and Jules Kounde own goal. 

Raphinha levelled for Barcelona with 20 minutes to go, to leave the tie on level terms heading into the second leg next week.
