The couple hit the headlines today after India cricket team captain Rohit Sharma announced, “Two changes, Shubman Gill and Umesh Yadav replace KL Rahul and Mohammed Shami,” in their test match against Australia.
The announcement sparked a meme fest with trolls taking jibes at the actress and implying that she brought ‘bad luck’ to her husband and the Indian team.

Athiya will not be the first actress to face the wrath of social media trolls for her cricketer husband’s underperformance on the field. Previously trolls went after Anushka Sharma every time they were disappointed with Virat Kohli’s performance on the field. However, the cricketer often made it a point to shut down these baseless allegations.

Athiya and KL tied the knot with KL Rahul on January 23. The couple hosted an intimate wedding attended by only their closest friends and family. They chose to delay their honeymoon and wedding reception till after the IPL for KL to focus on his training.
