Shonda Rhimes, Jameela Jamil, Josh Gad quit Twitter after Elon Musk takeover – Times of India
A self-described “free speech absolutist,” Musk said on Thursday that he wants to turn Twitter into a platform that is “warm and welcoming to all” and not a “free-for-all hellscape.”
He has criticized what he sees as aggressive content moderation, which he contends results in the censorship of right and far-right voices.
The Tesla boss further hinted that former US president Donald Trump, who was suspended from the platform after the attack on Capitol Hill in early 2021, might be allowed to return.
One of Musk’s other pet peeves is the issue of fake accounts. He threatened to walk away from the deal over the inauthentic or “bot” accounts but has not revealed what he will do to fight them.
Since the billionaire took over the micro-blogging app, several celebrities have left begun leaving the site. Shonda Rhimes, the creator and writer of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and executive-producer of the hit series ‘Bridgerton’, tweeted, “Not hanging around for whatever Elon has planned. Bye.”
‘This is Us’ director and director Ken Olin tweeted, “Hey all, I’m out of here. No judgement. Let’s keep the faith. Let’s protect our democracy. Let’s try to be kinder. Let’s try to save the planet. Let’s try to be more generous. Let’s look to find peace in the world.”
‘She-Hulk’ actress Jameela Jamil also announced her decision to leave the platform. “One good thing about Elon buying twitter is that I will *FINALLY* leave and stop being a complete menace to society on here. So it’s win win for you all really,” she tweeted.

Not too long after the takeover, reports claimed that the use of the N-word slur increased by nearly 500 per cent. The Network Contagion Research Institute (NCRI) told The Washington Post that use of the N-word on Twitter increased by nearly 500 per cent in 12 hours immediately after Musk’s deal was finalised last week. NBA star LeBron James called on Musk to take action on such accounts for using the “N Word.”
