Shillong curfew will be relaxed from 6am to 4pm, internet services restored: CM Sangma
Following violent protests in Shillong and adjoining areas, the State Government had clamped curfew on Sunday and suspended the mobile internet services.
Sangma while talking to media persons said, “The situation is somewhat calm, no serious incident reported from anywhere. Curfew will be relaxed from 6am to 4pm on Wednesday however the Deputy Commissioner will work out the micro details giving importance to localities. Internet services will be restored.”
He said, “Government had meetings with traditional heads, senior citizens and organisations and engaged in discussion with them. The peace committee will meet on Wednesday.”
Sangma said that the government is yet to accept the resignation of Home minister, Meghalaya home minister Lahkmen Rymbui.
Rymbui had resigned after Sunday’s incident. Sangma said, “I have not accepted the same, we have to see the overall security and safety of the state.”
Violent protests broke out in different places after General Secretary Chesterfield Thangkhiew of Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council was killed in a police operation on Friday. Chesterfield was a former militant and police have alleged his involvement in the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion at Iew Shillong, Laitumkhrah on Tuesday last. Two people were injured.
