‘Shehzada’ box office collection: Kartik Aaryan-starrer movie struggles with low occupancy and deserted halls on opening day

Kartik Aaryan’s latest movie, “Shehzada,” failed to impress the audience in its advance booking and opening day shows, resulting in a mere 9% occupancy across India, as per media reports.

The action masala film hit theatres on February 17 with high hopes of success, but its opening day performance tells a different story. Even in one of the biggest centres for Bollywood masala films, Delhi-NCR, the occupancy dropped to a disappointing 8%.

Trade experts predict that if the movie does not show significant growth in the afternoon, evening and night shows, it may not even cross Rs 7 crore net for its first day. This is in a sharp contrast to Kartik’s last big release, “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2,” which had 18% occupancy in its morning shows and managed to earn Rs 14 crore on its opening day.

With the amazing success of Pathaan, which is still running strongly in theatres, Shehzada’s release has been postponed by a week. Nevertheless, this has resulted in stiff competition with “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” which had a relatively stronger start at the box office. The movie registered 22% occupancy in its morning shows for the English version and 14% for the Hindi version, and it was expected to outdo “Shehzada” by at least twice in terms of opening day box office collections in India, the reports said.

Rohit Dhawan’s Shehzada, which also stars Kriti Sanon and Paresh Rawal in addition to Kartik Aaryan, will now rely on word-of-mouth marketing for a successful start, which seems like a difficult task with the movie struggling at the box office with low occupancy and deserted halls on its opening day.
