Shatrughan Sinha calls out ‘Boycott Bollywood’ trend: The troll army is sitting there purposely to speak against you – Times of India

Bollywood has been at the receiving end of boycott trends on social media platforms. Many films such as Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha, Vijay Deverakonda’s Liger, Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan among others had fallen victims to it. Giving his two cents on the cancel culture of Bollywood, veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha said that the army of trolls are sitting there purposely to talk negative things about you.
Stressing on the fact that these days social media has become a very powerful medium where people can voice their opinions and be heard. But unfortunately, people are using it to write ugly things and create a lot of noise over unnecessary reasons.

“Social media is very powerful these days. This is very unfortunately. Things have been especially difficult after Covid-19. The space that was created during Covid days helped give rise to social media. People got a chance to make their voice heard on social media. People write ugly stuff sometimes, and you don’t know them in case you want to stop them. The troll army is sitting there purposely to speak against you. In such a case, many of our own people become victims of it. There are also times when a film, which supposedly would not have done well, got attention just because a lot of controversy was created around it,” Shatrughan said at the Sahitya Aajtak Kolkata 2023.

The boycott Bollywood trend was at its peak when Shah Rukh Khan’s spy thriller Pathaan was about to release. Several protests had taken place across states where the right wing outfits had even threatened to damage cinema halls if the movie was screened. Despite all this, Pathaan has broken several all-time box office records worldwide.
