Shabana Azmi reveals the magic trick that Javed Akhtar taught her for a long lasting relationship – See inside – Times of India

While one is a legendary actress, the other is a legendary writer and lyricist – Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar’s marriage seems like a match made in heaven. The couple is married for over forty years now and share a great friendship which has kept their married life beautiful all through. But they’ve also had fights like any other couple has. Recently Shabana revealed a magic trick that Akhtar taught her to have a long lasting relationship.
Shabana shared the secret to her relationship with Javed. The actress said in an interview with Pinkvilla that, Javed told Shabana her that every time they have a fight, either one of them should tell the other, ‘drop it’ and the other person must drop it. She called this ‘magic words’ and said that they would revisit the subject of the fight later, in a much calmber state. Shabana further said that all the couples must excercise this mantra because when one is angry, one ends up saying things that they regret later. Revisiting an issue during a calmer state of mind, really works.

The actress also spoke about how friendship remains the core of her relationship with Javed Akhtar. They are each other’s best friends and their worldview is the same. The duo also came from the same background so Shabana joked that they should have had an arranged marriage. But Shabana emphasises on the importance of respect in a relationship. Respect has to be the fulcrum on which a relationship should be focused on.
Shabana and Javed had gotten married in 1984. The actress has done about 160 movies in her career so far. Her next is ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ set to release in July 28.
