SHAB E BARAT 2023 IN INDIA: Shab e Barat is an Islamic festival that is celebrated all around the globe. The translation of Shab e Barat is ‘The Night of Fortune and Forgiveness’ and it is observed on the 14th and 15th night of the month of Sha Aban, which is the eighth month of the Islamic Calendar. This year, it will be observed on the intervening night of March 7 and 8. The festival is considered to be the holiest night in the Islamic calendar. During Shab e Baraat, people belonging to the Muslim community offer prayers beside the grave of their ancestors and also at mosques.

This year the festival is observed on the evening of Tuesday, March 7, and ends on the evening of Wednesday, March 8.

Isha Prayer Timings
- The Isha (night) prayers at Kashmir’s Anantnag district Jamia Masjid will be held at 10:30 PM. It will be led by Imam e Hai, Moulana Sayar Ahmed.
- At Srinagar’s Jamia Masjid, Isha prayers will be held at 10 pm.
- Prayer will be offered at Hazratbal’s Khanqah at 10:30 pm.
Shab e-Barat: Significance
- Shab e-Barat comes from the Persian language – Shab means ‘night’, and ‘Barat’ stands for salvation and forgiveness.
- The festival is believed to be the night when Allah decides the fate of his followers for the year to come on the basis of their past actions.
- This is why the night is devoted to asking God’s mercy and forgiveness.
- The festival is also known as Laylat-ul-Barat or Laylat-ul-Baraa or Mid Shabaan.
- In the Arab world, it is also known as Laylat al-Bara’at.
