Selena Gomez declined a spinoff of Disney Channel series ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’, says Jennifer Stone

“She had a million other things going on and she wanted to move forward,” Stone said while talking about Gomez’s decision.

In the popular Disney Channel series ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’, Selena Gomez played Alex Russo while Jennifer Stone portrayed the character of her friend, Harper Finkle.

According to Jennifer Stone, the spinoff of the popular series almost happened. Stone, during an episode of Wizards of Waverly Pod told co-host David DeLuise that the idea was pitched to Gomez. “I don’t know how true this is, but I was told that it was pitched to Selena to do a Harper-Alex spinoff, and she said no because she had a lot of other things going on,” Stone said.

“I get it, she had a million other things going on and she wanted to move forward. Honestly, at the time, I wanted to move forward too. Looking back, it would have been great, but the thing is, where we both were at the time — like, we just wanted to explore other things,” the actor further said.

DeLuise, who played the character of Jerry Russo in the series, asked Stone about when the idea was pitched, she said it was after the Wizards of Waverly Place had wrapped up in 2012.
