This weekend, Dior’s Kim Jones debuted his new spring 2023 menswear collection in Paris to a front row filled with celebrities, including David and Cruz Beckham, Naomi Campbell, Miss Fame, and Colombian singer J Balvin. The musician says attending fashion week is a must, as he always walks away with fresh inspiration. “I love it because I learn a lot,” Balvin says. “There are different types of shapes, colors, and textures. It helps me to find new ways of wearing things, or keep my own way.”
The singer documented his fashion-filled day exclusively for Vogue—from the getting-ready action to the show itself. His favorite part of the presentation was the staging and the elaborate, floral-filled set, which nodded to the countryside landscapes in England and France. “It was amazing to see how they connected France with the UK,” says Balvin. “And it reminded me of my country, because it’s full of green.” His standouts from the collection? “The pastel outfits were out of this world,” he says. “[My favorite look was] the very first one that was all khaki. That whole look, from the boots to the pants to the jacket to the hat and the backpack, was so fire.”
Naturally, the singer also needed his own stellar look for the front row, where he sat in his prime spot with girlfriend Valentina Ferrer. The singer wore a graphic, camo-style shirt that was completely embroidered, finished off with breezy pastel-blue pants, chunky sneakers, sporty shades, and a crossbody Saddle bag. “The shirt was handmade,” he says. “It had to be hours and hours to do all the details of that shirt.” After mingling with some fellow stars backstage, he headed off to his car and onto the next slew of projects. “I will keep working, music, and having shows around the world,” Balvin says of his summer plans. “And trying to be a better person.”
