SC order on Vikas Dubey vindicates UP Police stance, says ADG

Police and administrative officers found to have had nexus with slain gangster Vikas Dubey will face action as per the Supreme Court’s direction that recommendations of the enquiry commission report be implemented by the Uttar Pradesh government, additional director general of police (law and order) Prashant Kumar said.

Reacting to the SC’s closing of all PILs seeking independent probe in his encounter, Kumar also said the top court has “vindicated” the UP police’s stand that Dubey’s encounter was not an extra judicial killing.

“Whatever the recommendations are, will be implemented,” Kumar told ET. “Some recommendations are also reformative in nature. It is likely to be a multi-disciplinary action involving several departments. Police officials found to be guilty of immediate lapses will be acted against appropriately by the police department.”

A senior government official, however, said the government will first wait for the Supreme Court order to be made public before making any decisions regarding the recommendations.

As many as 37 cops with links to Dubey had already faced action in the immediate aftermath of the Bikru massacre. A three-member enquiry commission chaired by retired SC judge Justice BS Chauhan had last year given the UP police a clean chit over Dubey’s encounter.
