Samsung: How Samsung too is a ‘winner’ in Google Pixel sales – Times of India

Google launched the Pixel 7 series in October 2022. The latest lineup includes the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones. Both smartphones use several components which are manufactured by Samsung. Google has co-developed the Tensor G2 chipset (that powers both Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro) with the South Korean tech giant. Moreover, Samsung also supplies the display panel, camera sensors and connectivity components for the Pixel 7 smartphone lineup. Now, a report by Counterpoint Research has revealed Google’s dependency on Samsung for the components that are used in the Pixel 7 Pro. The report claims that Samsung accounts for more than half of the Google Pixel 7 Pro’s bill of materials (BoM) cost.

As per the report, the mmWave version of the Pixel 7 Pro sports an LTPO OLED panel which is developed by Samsung’s Display unit. The smartphone also houses ISOCELL camera sensors (placed on both front and rear) which are also manufactured by Samsung. Pixel 7 series’ Tensor G2 chipset is also manufactured by Samsung Foundry.
Moreover, Pixel 7 Pro’s baseband, transceivers and power trackers for sub-6GHz bands are also designed by Samsung. The South Korea-based company also supplies the mmWave 5G components for the Pixel 7 Pro which it developed in association with Murata. Apart from this, the Pixel 7 series also uses Samsung’s PMIC components which are responsible for power management and audio of the phones.

Other suppliers of Pixel 7 Pro
Apart from Samsung, Google has also used components from other companies in its latest Pixel 7 Pro. The smartphone’s NAND Flash Storage is supplied by SK Hynix while its RAM is provided by both Micron and Samsung’s Semiconductor departments.
Furthermore, ATL supplies the battery cell and Sunwoda Electronics helps Google with the battery packaging of the Pixel 7 Pro smartphones. On the other hand, NXP takes care of the phone’s wired charging ability and IDT looks after the wireless charging part. Meanwhile, SEMCO is responsible for the rear camera module of the smartphone.
