Samara Weaving’s Guide to Acne-Proof Skin Care and Glittering Makeup

“I ignored skin care for a very long time. It wasn’t until I hit problems that I actually started taking care of my skin,” says Australian actor Samara Weaving. Thanks to guidance from a dermatologist, she found solutions in the form of a routine featuring cleanser, exfoliant, soothing face serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen. “I do think skin care and makeup can actually play quite a nice role into self-care,” notes the 30-year-old. “It’s a good time just to pause and take a breath.”

Weaving’s makeup routine is considerably minimal, a surprising contrast to her portrayal of Jessica in the Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers. In fact, she calls that role the biggest beauty transformation she’s ever done. “We wanted to make me look like I had a lot of plastic surgery done—like a face lift and we had fake teeth,” she says.

When it comes to her own approach to daily makeup, though, she avoids foundation—instead, opting for a duo of concealers (the first by Kosas, the other by Hourglass), beneath Bobbi Brown’s bronzer, Milk’s blush stick, and Westman Atelier’s highlighter. “I used to use a lot of powders but I think because my skin is so dry anyway it would kind of flake off, so I try to keep my skin as dewy as I can,” she says. Onto eyes, she sweeps bronzy shadows across her lids and bottom waterline, then eyeliner and mascara. “What I’m trying to do is create the illusion that my eyes go up like a cat.” Weaving nourishes her lips with Lucas’ Pawpaw Ointment, and shares a tip from a friend: “She would put it under her eyes as she slept. It just makes you look like you slept for a million years.”

After brows, she moves onto her glittering lip created with Glossier’s Ultralip in shade Villa, Lancôme’s L’Absolu Rôsy Plump, and Tom Ford’s Soleil Balm Frost Lip Balm. “This is more subtle makeup and I do enjoy that on the day to day basis, but when the time calls for a crazy look I am obsessed,” she says. “I love getting all dolled up and going to dinner or a red carpet. It changes my mood and how I carry myself.” And finally, a few drops of Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Glow Drops and a spritz of the Gucci Envy Me parfum serve as the finishing touches.
