Samantha Ruth Prabhu slams those judging women for their ‘hemlines and necklines’, is it in support of Deepika Padukone?

Actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu on Saturday slammed those who judge women based on what they wear, their race, and appearance among other things. Taking to Instagram Stories, Samantha asked if judgments on women ‘based on the hemlines and necklines’ can be stopped. She also added that projecting a person’s ideals on someone else ‘never did anyone any good’. For the background of her Instagram Stories, Samantha added her pictures wearing a green outfit. Samantha Ruth Prabhu wrote, “As a woman, I bear firsthand knowledge of what it means to be judged. We judge women based on what they wear, their race, education, social standing, appearance, skin tone, and the list goes on and on. Making snap judgements about a person simply based on the clothes they wear is quite literally the easiest thing one can do.”

“Now that we’re in the year 2022- can we finally stop judging a woman based on the hemlines and necklines she adorns and focus instead on bettering ourselves? Turning that judgement inward and training it on ones own self is evolution! Projecting our ideals on someone else never did anyone any good …let’s gently rewrite the way we measure and understand a person (red heart emoji),” she added.

Recently, Samantha shared several pictures of herself wearing a dark green coloured dress with a train. She paired the slip outfit, which had a plunging neckline, with black heels and opted for a braided hairdo. It is not known whether her new post was in reaction to any mean comments on her pictures.

Samantha’s post on ‘hemlines’ comes a few months after a spat between actor Deepika Padukone and social media influencer Freddy Birdy over her outfits. In January, Freddy had shared a post, speaking about the dresses worn by the female actors during the Gehrayiaan promotions. It read, “Newton’s Law of Bollywood. The clothes will get tinier as the Gehraiyaan release date approaches.” A part of the caption also read, “Necklines and hemlines are Gehraiyaan.”

Later, Deepika on her Instagram Stories shared a note that read, “Scientists say the universe is made of protons, neutrons, and electrons. They forgot to mention morons.” Though it wasn’t clear if Deepika had spoken about Freddy, the influencer had shared that story on his own account. He had also written, “The first non-fake comment in Deepika Padukone’s entire career.”

Samantha currently has several projects in the pipeline including Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaathal. She will feature alongside Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara in the film which will release in theatres on April 28. She is also part of the mythological film, Shakuntalam. She was last seen in a special dance number for Pushpa: The Rise.
