Ryan Porteous hits back at Rangers hero Kris Boyd after being urged to ‘grow up’
RYAN PORTEOUS has hit back at Kris Boyd after the Rangers hero urged him to “grow up”.
Boyd was full of praise for Porteous last week as he insisted that he had great potential in the game.
But he did claim that the 22-year-old would have to change his ways if he wanted to earn a big money move away from Easter Road.
Boyd claimed Porteous would become a one-club man like Lewis Stevenson and Paul Hanlon if he failed to change his game, but the defender doesn’t see a problem with that.
He said: “You’re never as good as people say you are — and you’re never as bad as people say you are.
“The gaffer keeps reminding me — and it’s not just me — that since I’ve been playing in the team, we’ve finished third, reached two cup finals, had record away wins and a lot of clean sheets.
“I don’t need to sit here and defend myself but there are a lot of people in this building who think really highly of me. That’s enough for me.
“It’s not been easy this season. But all the noise that happens outside I try and ignore, try and block it out.
“That’s not going to change my game or help my game.”
Writing last week in The Sun, Boyd said: “If he sees himself as the next Paul Hanlon or Lewis Stevenson, then fair enough.
“But I genuinely believe he’s got the potential to be better than that.”
Porteous continued: “They’re players who have played almost 1000 games for the club, won three trophies between them.
“They are legends. I feel any young player should be growing up to aspire to be them.
“Kris Boyd said I was a top player, if you read it properly. He said I was a top player with all the attributes to go to the very top.”
