Despite their season going horribly wrong, quarterback Russell Wilson still has high hopes for the Denver Broncos.
The Denver Broncos were a quarterback away from seriously contending for the playoffs, as they had the defense, wide receivers, and running backs. The team brought in quarterback Russell Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks, who won big games throughout his career.
We all know how the season went for the Broncos. Wilson drastically underperformed this season to the point where there are questions about whether he can return to form. The team’s offense was among the worst in the league. They had a disastrous Christmas Day game that saw players arguing on the sidelines and one getting into a postgame fight with a member of the Los Angeles Rams. Nathaniel Hackett looked ill-prepared as a first time head coach.
Now, entering an offseason where they have to look for another head coach after firing Hackett, Wilson was asked about a pitch for candidates on Wednesday. Wilson talked about the team’s outlook and said he envisions not just one Super Bowl title, but multiple titles.

“It’s a great job, it’s a great place to be,” said Wilson. “I didn’t realize it was 300 days of sunshine here. I knew our fans were great, but just the energy of the city has been special. I know it hasn’t been our best days, but better days are coming, and when we get on a hot streak and when we start winning, hopefully we can win a ring or two, or more. It’ll be even that much sweeter.”
The Broncos fanbase certainly hopes that better days are coming, as the team has not made the playoffs since they won Super Bowl 50 in the 2015 season. After Peyton Manning retired after that game, the team has gone through numerous quarterback options. When they tried out the likes of Trevor Siemian, Case Keenum, Drew Lock, and Teddy Bridgewater, the Broncos made the big move to acquire Wilson in exchange for multiple high-draft picks.
Wilson started in 14 games this season and led the Broncos to just three wins. In those appearances, Wilson recorded 3,241 passing yards, 13 passing touchdowns, and 10 interceptions while completing 60.8 percent of his throws. Wilson also ran for 259 yards and three touchdowns on 47 carries.
The Broncos will have to search for a head coach that they believe can not only turn the team around into a playoff contender but to also bring Wilson back to his Seahawks form. After all, he did sign a five-year, $242.6 million contract that doesn’t begin until the 2024 season.
