RRR, The Kashmir Files, Kantara, Gangubai Kathiawadi make it to the Oscars shortlist, to compete with 301 other movies – Times of India

Five films from India have made it to the reminder list which has been released by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. RRR, Gangubai Kathiawadi, The Kashmir Files and Kantara are eligible for the Oscars and will have to battle it out with 301 other movies.
Marathi films ‘Me Vasantrao’, ‘Tujhya Sathi Kahi Hi’, R Madhavan’s ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’, ‘Iravin Nizhal’ and ‘Vikrant Rona’ are also a part of the list. Pan Nalin’s ‘Chhello Show’ (The Last Film Show) is India’s official Oscar entry in the Foreign Film category. International films like ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’, ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’, ‘Elvis’, ‘The Fabelmans’ are also contenting for the 95th Oscars.

This shortlist features movies that will compete in various categories. 9,579 eligible members will be voting on Thursday, January. 12 at 9:00 am PST and the official Oscar nominations will be announced January 24.
Expressing his excitement for ‘The Kashmir Files’, director Vivek Agnihotri tweeted, “#TheKashmirFiles has been shortlisted for #Oscars2023 in the first list of @TheAcademy . It’s one of the 5 films from India. I wish all of them very best. A great year for Indian cinema. #PallaviJoshi #MithunChakraborty @DarshanKumaar @AnupamPKher are all shortlisted for best actor categories. It’s just the beginning. A long long road ahead.
