Roy Keane demands Manchester United get rid of David de Gea in the summer transfer window

‘I’d move him on QUICKLY’: Roy Keane demands Manchester United get rid of David De Gea and labels his team-mates ‘RIDICULOUS’ for celebrating the goalkeeper’s Golden Glove award

  • Roy Keane issued a damning review of Man United goalkeeper David de Gea
  • Ex-United captain Keane believes his old side need to sign a new number one
  • The Irishman doesn’t believe De Gea is good enough for Erik ten Hag’s side

Roy Keane has issued renewed criticism of Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea and has instructed his old club to move the Spaniard on in the summer as a matter of urgency.

De Gea was awarded the Premier League’s ‘Golden Glove’ award at Old Trafford on Sunday for the most clean sheets this season as United finished third overall.

The 32-year-old managed to keep opposition teams out on in 17 separate matches during United’s domestic campaign, three better than second-placed Liverpool shot-stopper Alisson.

However, that hasn’t convinced Keane that De Gea should be trusted as part of Erik ten Hag’s revolution at the club and believes both parties should cut ties, despite ongoing negotiations over a new deal.

‘Manchester United had to improve defensively from last year because they were so bad,’ Keane said on Sky Sports.

‘They’re [United players] all patting De Gea on the back there…I’d move him on quickly. He wouldn’t be for me, he’s not going to get Manchester United back winning trophies, absolutely not.

‘The idea that the players are patting him on the back is ridiculous, that’s his job,’ he added.

Ten Hag is keen to try and tie the long-term United goalkeeper down to a new contract and recently revealed that he is confident a deal will get done.

But, Keane along with other United supporters haven’t been impressed with the Red Devils number one who has made a series of costly mistakes over the course of the season.

The 13-time Premier League champions will be back competing in the Champions League next season and Keane feels that a new goalkeeper is needed.

The Irishman doesn’t believe De Gea would be happy playing second fiddle at the club he joined as a youngster in 2011 and stressed his uninterest in his personal accolades he has won at the club during that time.

Keane continued: ‘No, you wouldn’t keep him as a No. 2. He wouldn’t want that, he wouldn’t stay for that.

‘He’s done okay, he’s won a few Player of the Year awards – but what big deal is that? It’s about what the team is achieving.

‘I think he’s made far too many mistakes over the years. He was trying to leave the club for a few years ago and go to Real Madrid.’

De Gea will almost certainly start Man United’s FA Cup final against Manchester City on Saturday, June 3 at Wembley.
