Robbie Lawler is ready for a fight at UFC 276 (Video)
Robbie Lawler has a test on his hands at UFC 276 when he takes on Bryan Barberena.
Saturday, July 2, Robbie Lawler will be taking on Bryan Barberena on the main card of UFC 276. This will be Lawler’s 24th fight in the UFC, yet it will be his first of the year. Lawler last fought at UFC 266 where he beat Nick Diaz by third round tko. It was a violent finish, but that’s just a phrase that’s followed Lawler his whole career. Lawler is always looking to get the finish. However, that has lead to Lawler getting into some wars, which is something he tries to avoid.
“I’m not trying to go back and forth with anybody,” Lawler said. “That would be silly. I’m looking to go out there to finish people and not take any damage. But, sometimes guys don’t go away and sometimes I don’t either.”
Barberena is certainly one of those guys Lawler is talking about. He’s had four fight of night bonuses in his UFC career. His most recent was earlier this year in March when he defeated Matt Brown via split decision. Like Lawler, Barberena is either giving the fans a violent finish or a violent fight. Even with similarities to Barberena, Lawler is not too familiar with Barberena and his career. He even forgot the time he met him at an international fight week.
“I’ve seen him fight a few times,” Lawler said. “I’m not seasoned in watching every fighter out there. But, he’s had some good fights and he’s done some good stuff. He’s a guy that comes to fight and so am I.”
It doesn’t matter if it’s Barberena or anyone else in front of him. Lawler is ready for a fight. At this point in his career, Lawler isn’t looking to fight a specific opponent. He’s just trying to be himself and practice on getting even better.
“Pretty much ready to go (be Robbie Lawler) and, get my body ready,” Lawler said. “My coaches kind of implement things that I need to work on. Certain things I need to look out for and make sure I’m in shape in certain spots. Really I’m just focusing on myself. I might watch a little bit of tape. But, it’s all about being what I can do.”
