Rio Ferdinand reveals Patrice Evra regularly leaves Manchester United legends’ group chat
‘He gets RIPPED’: Rio Ferdinand reveals Patrice Evra regularly leaves WhatsApp group for Manchester United’s 2008 Champions League winners, claiming he gets ‘BULLIED’ by his former team-mates
- Patrice Evra is the butt of many jokes in the group chat, revealed Rio Ferdinand
- The former Manchester United left-back regularly leaves as a result of bullying
- Ferdinand claimed that absences never lasted long with him asking to return
Rio Ferdinand has claimed Patrice Evra regularly leaves a WhatsApp group chat for Manchester United’s 2008 Champions League winners.
The former United centre-back revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson’s famous Premier League and Champions League-winning squad share a group chat so as to keep in touch.
Players in the chat include the likes of Wayne Rooney, Darren Fletcher and Nani. However, there is one man who finds himself on the end regular group chat ribbings.
‘Evra just comes in and out because he gets bullied in there,’ Ferdinand told Mo Gilligan’s The Lateish Show.
‘He gets ripped and all you see is, “Patrice has left the group”‘.

However, Ferdinand revealed that Evra’s absence never lasts particularly long, with the former France international soon begging to return just a matter of hours later.
‘And then you get a text a couple of hours later, “Can you let me back in please, add me, add me”,’ Ferdinand claimed.
Examples of the banter Evra receives within the chat were displayed by Ferdinand when discussing his now-infamous white suit which he wore when unveiled as a United player in 2002.
Asked by Gilligan if he would bring back the suit, Ferdinand sent a voice note to the chat asking for his team-mates’ advice on the matter.
‘Bro, this is fire, you have to wear it!’ Evra responded, though tellingly not on the chat itself.
‘So, he’s come outside of the group because he knows if he says that inside of the group, they’ll kill him,’ Ferdinand said.
‘He’ll be told to get out of the group.’
The exact participants of the group chat were not revealed by Ferdinand, though it is fair to assume much of the squad are involved.
Ferguson’s team between 2007 and 2013 established themselves as one of Britain’s truly great sides, reaching three Champions League finals in that time as well as winning five Premier League crowns.
Ferdinand used his own 2002 outfit as evidence for Evra being terrified of the reaction inside the chat
Much of the side who won the Champions League in 2008 remained a core part of the side in the 2012-13 campaign, including Ferdinand, Evra, Nemanja Vidic and Wayne Rooney.
Regarded as Ferguson’s second truly great United side, following his 1999 Treble winners, Ferdinand claimed last year that his 2008 side would win a game between the two.
Asked whether the 2008 team was the best in United’s history, Ferdinand, speaking on the Filthy Fellas Youtube show, replied: ‘Yeah.’
‘I reckon if we played them [the 1999 team] it’d be a tight game but… I think our team would beat them,’ Ferdinand said.
‘I do. It’s all hypothetical, but I do really think we would.’
