Rihanna Reinvents the Canadian Tuxedo in Divisive Denim Pantaboots and a Matching Dress
Rihanna’s wardrobe has always been consistently spectacular, setting trends with practically every appearance she’s made over the years. The pop sensation continues to set trends when it comes to her maternity fashion, too, demonstrating that being pregnant and ultra-stylish is definitely not mutually exclusive. (She’s also influenced a string of celebs to confidently bare their bumps on the red carpet, from Jessie J at the Brit Awards to Adriana Lima at Cannes Film Festival.) Her latest outfit? Fresh off the Paris Fashion Week runway, of course.
At the CinemaCon in Las Vegas this week—where she announced that she will voice Smurfette in *The Smurfs Movie—*the “Diamonds” singer served a head-turning look that any fashion enthusiast would clock from a mile off. The ensemble provided a new twist on the Canadian tuxedo, featuring a denim floor-length dress with a dangerously high-slit and a pair of thigh-high denim boots (both of which are from Y/Project’s fall 2023 collection).
It wouldn’t be a Rihanna outfit without oodles of jewelry—here, she opted for a sapphire and diamond necklace, chandelier drop earrings, and matching studs from Bayco. As for her glam? Ri fittingly opted for Smurfette-blue eyeshadow to finish off the look.
When it comes to Y/Project, Rihanna has long been a fan of the off-beat designs by creative director Glenn Martens. Previously, the singer wore a range of tailored sets during her Anti World Tour in 2016. At Coachella in 2018, she chose a brown suede fall 2018 look with matching boots. Last year, she made headlines in Paris while wearing an oversized hoodie, a long men’s coat, and baggy leather boots from the brand’s fall 2022 collection.
It goes without saying that if Rihanna sees something that she likes on the runway, she will be casually wearing it in no time. Case in point: a mere few days after Martens’s debut IRL show for Diesel at Milan Fashion Week last February, the singer rocked an oversized men’s coat from look 43—literally “Phresh Out The Runway”—at the Off-White fall 2022 show in Paris.
