Report: Kaepernick’s workout with Raiders ‘positive’, but no deal imminent
After a workout with the Las Vegas Raiders, quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s arm strength and conditioning were praised as “good overall” but the team is not looking to sign or make a deal for the free agent, sources told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
The Raiders considered the workout a “positive” as the team potentially looks for options to back up starting quarterback Derek Carr, as former backup Marcus Mariota signed a two-year deal, with the Atlanta Falcons after the team traded quarterback Matt Ryan to the Indianapolis Colts for a third-round pick.
Last season Mariota played in 11 games over two seasons for the Raiders, completing 18 passes for 230 yards and one touchdown.
First-year head coach Josh McDaniels previously declined comment on Kaepernick, citing the standard of only discussing players actively on the Raiders’ roster.
McDaniels currently has Jarrett Stidham as a backup on his roster, as the two worked together when McDaniels was the offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots.
Kaepernick has not played in the NFL since 2016, the year he began to take a knee during the national anthem to protest racial inequality and police brutality. His last visit with an NFL team to work out was with the Seattle Seahawks in May 2017.
