Rani Mukerji cried on the sets while shooting for ‘Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway’, reveals director Ashima Chibber – Times of India

Rani Mukerji has gripped the nation with her performance in ‘Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway’ and the result is visible in the positive worldwide collection of the movie, which is inching closer to Rs 13 crore.
The film is based on a real life narrative of Sagarika Chakraborty, who fought a tough battle against the Barnevern, the Norwegian Child Welfare Services, for the custody of her kids. Speaking about the film, director Ashima Chibber revealed that it was an emotional ride for the team. She told mid-day that Rani would cry on the sets and she too was very emotional while shooting for particular scenes.

Rani’s heart-wrenching portrayal of a struggling mother has got the audience emotional. The actress apparently took inspiration from her own mother for this challenging role. Rani had revealed, “As an actor, I wanted it to be my interpretation of the character. I didn’t want too much baggage and have people find similarities between my role and the real person. Ashima had many tapes recorded of Sagarika, and I saw those for some references, but the rest of the character is actually based on my mum. She’s the most Bengali person I know… Be it feeding us with her hands, putting a tikka on us… I drew strength and inspiration from my mother.”
