Rangers hero Kris Boyd responds to Celtic offside critics as he makes Connor Goldson penalty call

KRIS BOYD reckons Hearts should have been given a penaly during today’s Premiership clash against Rangers.

Referee Nick Walsh did not point to the spot after Gary Mackay-Steven sent a cross into the box from the byline and it connected with Connor Goldson’s hand.

Boyd believes if Scottish football had VAR in place then a spotkick would have been given.

He told SKy Sports: “The sooner we get VAR the better. Hearts will feel aggrieved by this, it is a handball.

“Play it on, yes it helps Liam Boyce get his shot away, but there is no doubt about it, if that is in England you are going back and giving a penalty kick.

“His hand is out, it is a penalty kick there is no doubt about it.”

Boyd was criticised by Celtic supporters last week when he claimed that Kyogo Furuhashi’s goal against Hearts shouldn’t have stood for being offside.

He referenced this in his VAR argument today and insisted that officials were wrong on both occasions.

He added: “You go back to last week and a lot of people were saying it is because it was Celtic were playing that I was saying their goal was offside.

“It was offside, it was the wrong decision. It is the exact same there with Rangers.

“It is a penalty kick. Hearts and Robbie Neilson will be aggrieved with the referee’s decision.

“If you don’t have the assistance of VAR you can’t go back.”
